substance use disorder, often alongside trauma or PTSD. It brings trauma-informed care into every stage of treatment, from detox through residential care, with staff who know military and first responder work firsthand or through specialized training.

PTSD and substance use often travel together. Alcohol or pills can dull nightmares, hypervigilance and intrusive memories for a while, then make all of it worse. That’s why every patient here meets weekly, at minimum, with a psychiatrist who focuses on addiction medicine, so trauma symptoms and substance use are treated as connected problems. Our dual diagnosis page explains that approach in more depth.
Individual therapy and groups then give you ways to carry what you’ve seen without needing a substance to do it.
Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and dispatchers absorb things most people never see, sometimes several times in a single shift. Add rotating schedules, broken sleep and a culture where needing help can feel like a liability, and a few drinks after shift or something to fall asleep can turn into a routine quickly.
Stars & Stripes treats first responders with the same trauma-informed approach. Many on your team know the job through experience or training, and the people beside you in treatment understand the pressure that comes with it.

Cliffside West LA is an in-network TriWest provider, which means eligible veterans may be able to receive treatment here through VA Community Care, the VA’s network of outside providers. Eligibility and approval are decided by the VA, so admissions will check your benefits and explain the steps before you make a decision.
First responders usually use their own health plans. We’re in network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and ComPsych, and other plans may be accepted out of network. Private pay is also available.
