Stopping drugs or alcohol after heavy or long-term use is hard on the body, and for some substances it isn’t safe to do on your own. If you’re looking for drug detox in Los Angeles, Cliffside West Los Angeles provides medically supervised detox for adults 18 and older in one of two six-bed homes on LA’s Westside. Licensed and registered nurses are with you 24/7, and addiction medicine physicians oversee your detox from the day you arrive.
Six beds per home means the people caring for you notice small changes early and can adjust your care quickly, day or night.

Detox is the period when your body clears drugs or alcohol and relearns how to function without them. At Cliffside West LA, nurses monitor you around the clock while addiction medicine physicians manage your withdrawal and adjust your care as symptoms change.
Many of the people we care for have more going on than one substance. Years of heavy use, a co-occurring psychiatric condition, a medical issue or a complicated medication list are all common here. Many have also been through treatment before, and a past relapse doesn’t count against you. A psychiatrist who specializes in addiction medicine sees every patient at least once a week.

Alcohol is one of the substances where withdrawal can become medically serious. After long-term heavy drinking, stopping suddenly can cause tremors, sweating, a racing heart and, in some people, seizures or severe confusion. Medically supervised alcohol detox means those risks are watched for and treated early by people trained to manage them.
If you drink heavily every day and want to stop, please talk to us or your doctor before you quit.

Opioid and fentanyl withdrawal is rarely life-threatening on its own, but it can be intensely uncomfortable: body aches, sweating, nausea, anxiety and strong cravings. The greater risk often comes after detox. Tolerance drops quickly, so returning to use carries a higher chance of overdose. That’s one reason detox here leads straight into ongoing treatment.
Your physicians can use medication to make withdrawal symptoms more manageable. For some people, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) can also help reduce cravings once detox is complete.
Stimulant withdrawal (cocaine, meth) is usually not physically dangerous, but the crash can be rough. Exhaustion, low mood and cravings are common, and it helps to have people around you.
Cliffside West LA is in network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, ComPsych and TriWest (for eligible veterans through the VA Community Care Network). We also work with most other plans on an out-of-network basis and offer private pay. Our admissions team will verify your benefits and explain what your plan may cover before you make any decisions.
When you call, we’ll ask a few questions about what you’ve been using and your health, check your insurance and talk through next steps. You don’t have to decide anything on that first call.
One admissions specialist stays with you from your first call until you arrive. They’ll tell you what to bring and help with practical details like FMLA or leave-of-absence paperwork. What you share is kept confidential, and we’re used to caring for people who need extra privacy.
